The Magna Carta was established to limit to power of the English monarchy and protect the rights of its citizens. It would later be the inspiration for the United States Constitution.
The Southern states seceded from the Union shortly after Abraham Lincoln was elected president. This is because they knew he would be in opposition to slavery and supported the idea that the nation's rights should outweigh state's rights. In order to protect their way of life and what (who) they considered their property, they seceded and formed the Confederate States of America (CSA).
It guarantees people of all races and colors the right to vote in the United States. At the time of its ratification it would have been primarily to insure the rights of Blacks (African-Americans) to participate in the government of the United States. This Amendment does not protect the right for a women, of any race or color, to vote in the United States (19th Amendment).
Yes. But this would not protect the person who goes beyond the limits in the US Constitution from prosecution in Federal Court. What the states may not do is impose more restrictive limits on civil liberties or civil rights than those in the US Constitution.
Some states or people (like Virginia's Patrick Henry) thought that the Constitution did not adequately protect individual citizens' rights. Therefore, a Bill of Rights was added so more states would ratify the Constitution, and the American people were afforded more protection than with the Constitution alone. The Bill of Rights added a significant number of rights and privileges not given to citizens under the Constitution alone.
what would the consequences be if the rights of group come into conflict

The Bill of Rights is protected by the Judicial Branch.
I would expect that all of the States wanted to protect the powers/rights that are designated for them by the restrictions on the Federal Government. The states in the south were very vocal that they felt the Federal government had greatly exceeded its powers and had passed unconstitutional laws. This was much of their basis for secession from the 'Union'.
the constitution

The Constitution of The United States safeguards are not in place to limit individual rights, but to protect those rights. Most countries have laws that may appear to be limitations, but are really put in place to protect all the people, not just those with or without money or those that are of a certain color or race. If these laws were not in place, people with power would trample the rights of those without power.
they would not have many rights
The Constitution would never have been ratified. The Antifederalist opponents believed that it did not protect the rights of the people and states enough, so if it were never to be amended, we wouldn't have the Bill of Rights and thus the ratification of the constitution

because the original Constitution didnt specifically protect freedoms of speech, religon, ect. they were promised the bill of rights to be added soon after if they signed on.
They wanted to guarantee that certain personal freedoms would be protected.
