If it sounds like metal on metal it might be your sway bar. There is a bar used for stabilizing the frame and suspension that snapped on my 99 Solara and was handing by a bolt. I discovered it by hearing it clanging on the wheel when I was breaking. I detached it by taking off the bolt and it has been fine....
