I guess the answer depends upon what you mean by "stop working". I have a 2001 ECHO with a radio that stopped producing sound a few years ago. The display still indicated that both the AM/FM tuner and the CD were working in every way; just didn't get any sound. Turned out one of the speaker wires in the rear deck became detached. Since the back of the speakers are exposed to the trunk, it's easy to knock the wires off when loading grocery bags. Took me a while to figure this out because the car has four speakers; it never occurred to me that one wire coming loose would cause all four speakers to stop working. However, reconnecting that one wire solved my problem. Hope your problem is that simple.
My independent Toyota trained mechanic recommended the factory requirement of 90,000 miles. Hope this is helpful.
