Float may be stuck in carburetor, or you may need to turn the petcock to the off position when not riding (if applicable). ~RC@HD~ ANSWER: Another posibility is that the gas cap is not venting correctly and when the bike sits in the sun, presure builds up in the tank forcing gas out of the overflow vent in the carb.

The actual horsepower number is just that... only a number. If you really need a number, a 2008 883 Sportster produces approximately 55 horsepower at 6000 rpm. Harley does not advertise the stock numbers. You have to find someone who has dyno tuned a stock bike. Usually when money is spent on a dyno, the bike is no longer stock.

Try checking the gorund cable at the opposite end from the battery. I had one come loose on my sporty and it would not start but the lights would come on.
