The actual horsepower number is just that... only a number. If you really need a number, a 2008 883 Sportster produces approximately 55 horsepower at 6000 rpm. Harley does not advertise the stock numbers. You have to find someone who has dyno tuned a stock bike. Usually when money is spent on a dyno, the bike is no longer stock.
Try checking the gorund cable at the opposite end from the battery. I had one come loose on my sporty and it would not start but the lights would come on.
