depends on many things...
white smoke is burning coolant = head gasket
black smoke is burning oil + many possible issues.
get your car checked out before you start over heating, then youll need to buy a new motor.
Do you smell coolant? a rather sweet smell,,, My 00 catera smoked when it warmed up i thought it was headgasket but it didn't overheat so i got it looked at turned out to be what they call a (heater control valve) its relativly simple and minor repair mine still smoked after i fixed it but then i cut the resons off and put a new muffelr (apc) and it stoped (i guess the coolant stays in there until eventualy burning off.....but now im having a problem with it running rough until its warmed up at only 86 551 miles on it i hope i got a good catera not a lemon like many people seem to have lol
may also be egr valve if its not a lot of smoke
Rocker cover gaskets need to be replaced.
Possibly a cracked head. The Ford 6.0L diesels are notorious for this. If the leak isn't bad it'll blow white smoke when cold but will be less noticeable when warmed up. You'll usually have a heck of a time starting the engine in the winter too.
Check the Heater Core? Did it smell like oil or antifreeze. My Heater Core went, started blowing out smoke from the vent. Most Likely the Problem. "smoke" poured into my 1991 when the ac blew out all the freon and froze up the outside temp gage.
what type of vehicle ? black smoke is a rich fuel condition carb. loading up or chock sticking closed would be the first place to look
my truck started to smoke from the rear end when I was driving down the high way and now its jerking around WHY or What would be the cause
Spark plugs don't smoke. A bad alternator would cause a dead battery.
I know the white smoke would be caused by coolant, which would be leaking into the combustion chamber.
yes...the lack of air would causes excessive fuel which would cause black smoke.
Most likely a blown fuse
It sounds like there may be a leak. If oil is leaking down on the manifold it will cause alot of smoke.
Fire... Where there is smoke, there is fire.
what kind of gasoline are you running? and what color is the smoke?
