Many animals, including mankind, would not be able to breath and would suffocate and die. Also, as methane is very flammable, it would only take a single spark to set the world alight.

What gas in the air reacts to sulphur when it burns?

Combustion products of methane would be water and CO2. Methane is CH4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methane

Why don't methane and oxygen react immediately?

For any chemical reaction, there is what is called an activation energy that is required to make that reaction happen. Methane and oxygen both exist as molecules in which there are molecular bonds. In methane, the carbon is bonded to the hydrogen, and in diatomic oxygen, the two oxygen atoms are bonded to each other. So, before the oxygen can bond to the carbon and the hydrogen, all of those existing bonds have to be broken. Once the process begins it is self-sustaining, because it releases a lot of energy, more than enough to break the existing bonds in methane and oxygen. But you still need the activation energy to get things started. This would normally come in the form of a spark. It just takes one small spark to set off an explosion, if you have a mixture of methane and oxygen. Or a pilot light, to light your gas stove.

What happen when they were no forests?

there would be no oxygen

What is the limiting reactant in combustion of methane is 2.8 moles of methane and 5 moles of oxygen?

Methane reacts with oxygen in the following way. CH4 + 3 O2 --> CO2 + 4 H2O. If 5 moles of oxygen react with 2.8 moles of methane, only 1.67 moles of methane would be consumed because of the molar ratio 1:3. This would produce 1.67 moles of carbon dioxide and 6.67 moles of water.

Does your car emit methane?

== Methane is the simplest hydrocarbon with the molecular formula CH4. Methane could be produced from electricity of renewable energies. Methane can be stored more easily than hydrogen and the transportation, storage and combustion infrastructure are mature (pipelines, gasometers, power plants). As hydrogen and oxygen are produced in the electrolysis of water, : 2H2O → 2H2 + O2 hydrogen would then be reacted with carbon dioxide in Sabatier process, producing methane and water. : CO2 + 4H2 → CH4 + 2H2O Methane would be stored and used to produce electricity later. Produced water would be recycled back to the electrolysis stage, reducing the need for new pure water. In the electrolysis stage oxygen would also be stored for methane combustion in a pure oxygen environment in an adjacent power plant, eliminating e.g. nitrogen oxides. In the combustion of methane, carbon dioxide and water are produced. : CH4 + 2O2 → CO2 + 2H2O Produced carbon dioxide would be recycled back to boost the Sabatier process and water would be recycled back to the electrolysis stage. The carbon dioxide produced by methane combustion would be turned back to methane, thus producing no greenhouse gases. Methane production, storage and adjacent combustion would recycle all the reaction products, creating a cycle. Source www.wikipedia.com

Would Hydrogen gas be a product of the reaction of oxygen and methane?

When Methane combusts (IE add oxygen, burn it), you get CO2 and H2O.

Can you suffocate on Pluto?

As the atmosphere of Pluto is Methane, If you was suddenly exposed to it yes you would suffocate as there is no Oxygen for you to breathe. Methane by itself is not Toxic to us, but without the presence of Oxygen we cannot breathe.

How would oxygen be represented in the formula equation for the reaction of methane and oxygen to yield carbon dioxide and water?

o2

Will methane gas combust and raise steam temperature further if added to steam 600 degrees C in a chamber?

Methane needs oxygen to combust so it would depend on how much oxygen there is in the chamber.

Why no reaction happen when methane left in darkness?

If you just have methane in a dark room nothing will happen because nothing is there to react. If the room was light nothing would happen either, as there are still no other chemicals for it to react with.

would oxygen gas burst into flames if placed in gas?

This really depends upon the kind of gas you are talking about. Nitrogen is a gas, and it does not react with oxygen at normal temperatures. Methane does react very readily with oxygen, although even then, you would need some kind of spark to set it off. A methane oxygen mixture does not so much burst into flames, as explode. It would burn all at once.
