Depending on the interconnectivity a country has, major critical systems would fail and their would be extreme chaos or there would be little effect. For example, an African tribe without electricity will go totally unaffected by internet "disappearing". However, in America the water supply, traffic control, electric grid, weapons systems, etc. all are controlled with the internet and that would cause a lot of chaos and probably a lot of deaths.

It is possible- but tough to do that. YouWikiAnswers - Answering 'How do you get connected to the internet without a contract with an Internet Service Provider isp?' would have to literally set up your OWN ISP provider- which would take a lot of equipment. Routers and Modems do not connect to the internet- especially since the internet is very spread out- rather they connect to an ISP which then forwards to an Internet HUB- if you are in Florida or Georgia- the Hub is in Atlanta for instance- and ultimately- this connection allows you to browse the internet. Without an ISP- I'm not sure if you would have an External IP address- and likely you would have to connect directly to any website you wanted to. It is possible- but the amount of energy and money it takes would leave you probably bankrupt- it is better just to get an ISP contract.
The definition of a bridging point is where something goes through something to connect. Diagram: Computer with no internet > Computer with internet >> Internet. The bridging point would be between the first ">" and the ">>" means both computers are now recieving internet. For example in computing: some computers do not have a wireless device installed, so to bridge a computer to a computer that has wireless you need a CABLE, the computer that is connected to the internet-enabled computer would be the bridge, and the start point would be between the computer that has not got internet, to the one that has. Hope this helps, and that you can understand it.

To find a company that provides phone service I would start by looking in the local phone book yellow pages. I would also do a search on the internet and check reviews on Angie's list. If I still did not have the answer I need I would look on Craigs list on the internet.
