Nothing would happen, the flashlight simply wouldn't work. Switch the batteries back around and it will work.
This is purely because the contacts don't line up properly. A normal incandescent lamp will work either way round. A modern LED flashlight however is polarity sensitive.
This might not be a really good answer but you could use one to power a flashlight in a storm when you cant find batteries I guess. Haha. Something along those lines would be the real world application. Is this for science fair?
it should work as long as the batteries are connected in series + to - what you would need to check is if the charger for the cart charges 24v or 8v if it is 8v you would need to get a 24v charger for it it would be possible to charge the batteries with a 12v charger but it would need to be hooked to each battery separately
First find the current which is 250/12 = 21A rounded off. So you would need 6 of the batteries in parallel to get a bit more than 1 hr and probably 11 batteries in parallel would provide around 2 hours of operation. This is not precise since the power supply wouldn't always consuming 250 watts of power.
If they are in phase and have same amplitude you should be okay. I expect this is not the case given your description so you would likely get a distorted waveform.

Well what you would do is you would put the first brand of batteries in the flashlight and you would time how long the batteries lasted and right it down . Then put the second brand of batteries in the flashlight and turn on the flashlight and time the flashlight and see how long the batteries lated and wright it down and you have your answer .
Car batteries will make a larger explosion than flashlight batteries would.
Because the bulb is blown, the batteries are flat/absent or there is a problem with the circuitry.

The origin is the fact that early batteries were so weak and the current draw of the lamp was very high. So could only turn the flashlight on for an instant before the batteries would wear out....hence flash of light. Who says flashlights can't flash?! Mine flashes. It's true.
