Excessive high idle
Excessive lean mixture.
Advanced timing can cause that to happen
The turbocharger turbine housing and exhaust manifold on any state of the art high horsepower (per litre of displacement) diesel engine will glow red as it approaches full load condition.
The fuel mixtue has gone lean.
the glow plugs are situated on the rear of the engine above exhaust manifold at a 60% angle took some time to find mine but they are there
At what RPM and load? If at idle it is running way lean and has probably got a cracked EGR valve to manifold tube. At higher RPM and load this is normal.
The engine runs fast, won't idle down, and many times the exhaust manifolds will glow red hot from the lean mixture.
check the cad. converter ======================== That's normal if you dive the car "HARD" .. Turbo kicks in and lots of air/fuel => exhaust then too hot
they are in the back of the engine just above the exhaust manifold with the car on 1 ft ramp, you may reach them from under the car without the need to strip down the parts on top of the engine
Seemes to me like you might want to check your timing. your problem could be that when the pistons reach Top dead center and the sparkplug ignites your air fuel charge your exhaust valves could be open slightly resulting in a big loss of power and your combustion bursting out into your exhaust manifold causing it to glow. hope that helps.
You will need to remove the air intake manifold under this you will find the glow plugs Can you help I am a novice and not sure how to take to air intake manifold off? thanks
The Cummins engine doesn't have glow plugs. It has an intake manifold heater grid.
the timing is incorrect on your engine, to glow bright red the timing is to far advanced. have the timing reset and you will be good to go.
