It could be that the gauge itself is not working, or it could be a bad sensor.

The sensor in older cars is a float which could become stuck, especially if the tank was emptied completely.

A blown fuse for the instrument panel will make the tank show empty (or full in some cars).

If the car is still not running and the tank shows empty while it is really full, then the fuel pump may be defective.

You could not have filled it up all the way.

Why does the gas gauge on your Dodge van read almost empty when it is full of gas?

Factor(s): 1- "Possible" bad fuel indicator/gauge/gage. 2- "Possible" break in the fuel signal wiring between the indicator and the sending unit. 3- Possible" defective sending unit located inside the fuel tank ( normally, fuel pump and sending unit are into single unit assembly). 4- Or, YOU thought you filled the tank but it's actually empty?! -Just kidding! *Manny ANGELES / Elk Grove, CA.

How do you install a in-tank fuel pump for a 1985 crown vic and how do you by pass it?

Why would a 1998 Nissan 200sx start up and then die out just replaced fuel filter spark plugs?

You might have air in the line, from the new fuel filter being empty. If you didn't put some fuel in it before you hooked it up, you probably just ran on whatever was alread in the line between the filter and the engine.

Why is your Toyota Paseo fuel empty indicator not working?

The fuel empty indicator in a Toyota Paseo might not be working for a couple of different reasons. First, the fuse for the fuel gauge might be blown, in which case you just need to replace it. It is also possible that the float inside the gas tank is faulty and needs servicing.

Does running out of gas affect the car?

no it will just take a few moments to start after you put gas in it. It can if there is sediment in the bottom of the tank and it clogs the fuel filter. Fuel filter could clog. Fuel Pressure regulator could fail. Fuel pump can burn out.

How do you change the fuel in lawn mower?

You disconnect fuel line at the carburetor .You can remove it from the tank if needed. Have a piece of plastic tubing that you place the fuel line in and it drains into your bucket. If your going straight from the tank just place your tubing over the connection and it will empty into your bucket.. Some people would rather use a siphon but that takes a while .
