They did a number of things, and they all had jobs to do... farmers farmed, artisans created art and pottery, merchants and traders banked and traded, mothers cared for young children, teachers taught, boys went to school, girls learned how to care for the house and children, priests prayed, slaves (now called "unskilled workers") worked- and eventually got released, pharaohs enjoyed being "GODS", fishers fished, herders herded, shopkeepers kept their shops, scribes were secretary's for pharaohs and priests, and nobles......... well I don't actually know what nobles do but their right below the king so their pretty important. *whew.. some guy wrote football as the answer I had to improve it (pause) and your question was sooooo general.

P.S. YOU made my fingers hurt!!
