A 5/8" socket wrench.
You will need a Torx style bit or wrench to fit into the plug (size T40). A small pipe wrench which grips the outer flange of the plug can also be used to loosen it.
The 2006 VW Jetta oil drain plug will be on the bottom of the oil pan. You can remove the drain plug with a 9/16 wrench.

The oil drain plug is located on the botton of the oil pan. the oil pan is black in color, there is an obvious "bolt" on the back side of the pan. Use a 14mm wrench to remove the bolt. The Transmission drain plug is located on the botton of the Transmission housing, Under the passanger side drive axle. Use a 15mm wrench to remove this plug.
Buy a plug wrench.
It takes a 17mm Allen wrench to remove the fill plug.
If the drain plug is original equipment, it takes a 17mm wrench or socket.
Get a spark plug socket and wrench that fits the plug body and remove it by turning counter-clockwise.

It uses a cartridge type filter. You can buy a wrench that will fit the cartridge, but a large channel lock wrench will accomplish the task, unless you over-tighten. Remember to remove the filter drain plug, before removing the filter. Be sure and replace the O ring on both the drain plug an the filter.
