Sheyer did not check enough sources. John and Betsy Ross were married in 1773, well after 1758. They opened an upholsery shop together. The Revolution was in progress and business was slow, so John joined the militia. In January, 1776, he was guarding a munitions dump and it blew up, severely injuring John Ross, he died later, after Betsy tried to nurse him back to health on January 21, 1776. He died in November of 1776.
Yes. Elizabeth Griscom married John Ross and became Elizabeth Ross whom everybody called Betsy. John Ross was the Betsy's very first husband. He died from a bomb in the revolutionary war and it was a very short marrige. Betsy's second husband was John Ashburn. Her third husband was John Claypool. I have not found what had happened to John Ashburn when he died. Or with John Claypool.
