Slovakia became an independent state twice.

Firstly in 1939, when (First) Slovak Republic aka Slovak State was formed after Czechoslovakia dissolved, when Adolf Hitler took today's Czech Republic as a Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. Czechoslovakia was reinstituted after the war in 1945.

Second time, when Czechoslovakia broke into Czech Republic and Slovakia, was on 1st January 1993.
