Therefore, one the Communist North Vietnam invaded the anticommunist South Vietnam, the USA had to get involved and 'help' the South.
The Americans feared the if Vietnam will turn communist, the communism will spread with the Domino effect to the rest of Asia.
It resulted in USA loosing the war BIG TIME.
