Walter Hunt was a mechanic. He invented the lock stitch sewing machine and the safety pin. He also invented the hard-coal-burning stove and street sweeping machinery.
First, Issac singer invented the sewing machine and that didnt work so Walter hunt recreated it and when he finished it, it worked but he did not patent it because he thought it would cause unenployment.

Individual people were needed to sew things by hand, the sewing machine would reduce the amount of people it would take to sew items by hand.

He is also well known for inventing a commercially unsuccessful sewing machine.
Walter Hunt was from the state of New York. He was the first to build a working sewing machine, but he didn't patent his invention. He did not want to cause seamstresses to loose their jobs. Elias Howe was from the state of Massachusetts and invented the first Automatic Sewing Machine. Howe obtained the first patent for the machine. Both are American inventors from the east coast of United States.
