Bryant the driver said he ran away from the vegetable fields of South Florida at 19 in the back of a Greyhound bus. Sixteen years later, he was driving the bus. Some whites refused to board his bus when they saw a black man behind the wheel.
"I could understand. It was an unusual experience for both people," said Bryant, 80. "My [white] coworkers weren't too happy to see me driving either. But I had to take a job. I can put up with stuff to feed my family."

I believe it was Wendell Scott, I know he is the only black driver to win a Nascar race, the race he won was in Jacksonville, Florida at speedway park on December, 1st 1963, he retired in 1973.
