The official date for the First Crusade was the 15th August 1096, (the date of the Feast of the Assumption).

But, before this some unexpected armies of peasants and minor nobles left for Jerusalem, led by Peter the Hermit and Walter Sansavior, this became known as the Peoples Crusade. Unfortunately most of them were killed in a battle at Civetot.

The main army of Crusaders reached what was known as Asia Minor in that time around April 1097, where they were joined by Peter the Hermit and the remains of the Peoples Crusade Army, (Walter Sansavior being one of those already killed).
