The official date for the First Crusade was the 15th August 1096, (the date of the Feast of the Assumption).
But, before this some unexpected armies of peasants and minor nobles left for Jerusalem, led by Peter the Hermit and Walter Sansavior, this became known as the Peoples Crusade. Unfortunately most of them were killed in a battle at Civetot.
The main army of Crusaders reached what was known as Asia Minor in that time around April 1097, where they were joined by Peter the Hermit and the remains of the Peoples Crusade Army, (Walter Sansavior being one of those already killed).

The Crusades happened in the high and late middle ages. The pope declared the first crusade in the year 1095.
There were two waves to the first crusade. The first left earlier than the Pope wanted to at the end of winter, early spring in the year 1096. The second wave which was actually successful in conquering the Holy Land left August 15, 1096.
It was captured by the Israelis in year 1967
In the year 1198 and ended in 1207.

In April 1095, Pope Urban II was in Piacenza, Italy. From there, he issued the call for the First Crusade in November of that year.
