I don't know how to date a specific Necchi machine but the Nova BU was made in the 1950's as far as the couple that I have owned. At least that's what the dates in the manuals were.

singer That isn't correct. Kenmore machines with the 385. prefex were made by Janome who still makes the kenmore sewing machines today. The 148 prefex machines were made by White.
Get some patterns first, and get to know your way around a sewing machine, they make small sewing machines for kids, they are easier to use.

I have an old American Heritage magazine(book) from 1951 that has an ariticle about the 100th anniversary of the company
My mother sewed all my toddler clothes on a Wizard sewing machine and I was born in 1960, so I know she purchased it between that year and about 1964. She gave me this sewing machine and it still sews like it's brand new. I love it!!
