Russia was communist nation. Currently Cuba is communist nation.
Following WW II, the USSR took control of the nations of eastern Europe which became satellite states, and kept out normal commerce and travel to western Europe. Therefore, as Winston Churchill observed, it was as if an iron curtain had fallen across Europe, sealing off the eastern part from the west.

From after the Treaty of Versailles was established to 1937, Europe had still continued to change dramatically. Every country (with the exception of Czechoslovakia) in Eastern Europe had fallen to an authoritarian government. In addition, the Soviet Union, Italy, and Nazi Germany became totalitarian governments and Italy, Nazi Germany, and Spain had fallen to fascism. There was a major retreat from democracy as countries dealt with World War I and the aftermath. Alliances had also changed, but essentially became meaningless on the previous Allied side. Nazi Germany also undid most of the Treaty of Versailles, reoccupied the Rhineland, started remilitarized, and stopped paying war payments in order to prepare for Nazi domination of Europe.
yes red rain has fallen in parts of of Europe and Asia!
Germany controlled most of Western Europe. Although Britain had not fallen, it was powerless to challenge the Nazi position on the continent. In Eastern Europe, the Nazis had advanced deep into Soviet territory. Soviet losses numbered in the millions. Still, in 1942, the pendulum began to swing in the Allies' favor
he called it "an Iron curtain " that has fallen
This was taken from a speech that he made on March 5th 1946 in Fulton Missouri and referring to the fact that the Soviet Union had occupied most of Eastern Europe and the citizens of the occupied countries were not allowed to travel to the west and vice versa. What he actually said was, 'From Strettin on the Baltic to Trieste on the Adriatic, an Iron Curtain has come down across the Continent'. Incidentally, he wasn't Prime Minister at the time as he had unbelievably lost the election in 1945 - but that's democracy.
The division was once referred to as the Iron Curtain, but that has now fallen out of use since the collapse of communism.
The Eastern Empire would have probably fallen along with the Western Empire.
The Eastern Empire would have probably fallen along with the Western Empire.
The Vikings had nothing to do with the decline of the Roman empire. They came into prominence well after the western empire had fallen. As the Vikings were also great traders in addition to their military strength, they more than likely had contact with the eastern part of the empire by way of Europe's rivers.
