What year was Croatia founded in?

There is a legend that says Croatia was founded by five brothers (Klukas, Lobel, Muhlo, Kosjenc and Hrvat) and two sisters ([[wiki/Tuga|Tuga]] and Buga), so it possible that Croat (Hrvat) is a word that originates from one of the brothers names. It hasn't scientifically been proven who founded Croatia and where they came from. There are some theories though.

The most widely accepted ones are:

- the Slavic theory : Croats are simply a Slavic tribe

- the Iran theory: tries to prove that the Croats brought important elements from Iran, this theory is in conflict with the precedent one

- the Gothic theory: the Croats are actually Goths ( based on the document ''Historia Salonitana'' by Tomo Arhiđakon)

This theory is the one scientists least believe in.
Croatia (as principality and later kingdom) was found in 7th century. Founder of first officially independent country in mediveal age was duke Branimir (879-892 AC). First king was king Tomislav (925 AC) and afer last king, Zvonimir, Croatia has been in unions or under occupation until 1991. First president was Franjo Tuđman.

There are two answers:

First, Croats came to this area as last people from Great Migrations, in 8th century. Croatian kingdom was founded and established in 925 (king Tomislav) and durated till war with Hungarians, in 1102. Year 1102 was the last time Croats had their own ruler and government until 1990s.

And second, Croatia finally got independence on 25th June 1991st.
