Browning introduced the .22 automatic in 1956. The gun was made by Fabrique Nationale since 1913, but Browning started to import with their name in 1956. Production was moved from Belgium to Japan in the early 70's and is still made today. Grade II and III is still produced by the Custom shop in Belgium.
