In the US, the first 2 cent stamp was issued in 1867. The main rate for first class postage was 2 cents from 1885 through July 1932. There was a brief increase during World War 1. And prior to that the 2 cent rate was applied to the first half ounce of mail.

∙ 14y agoThe postage rate in the US was 2 cents for one ounce of first class mail from July 1 1919 to July 6, 1932. It was also 2 cents from July 1, 1885 to November 3, 1917. During World War 1, and additional penny was charged to help finance the war effort.
