The first African slaves arrived in Virginia about 1619 (although they were technically indentured servants and not slaves). Slavery officially ended with the Thirteenth Amendment in 1865.

So, for the United States, the slavery era would be 1619 to 1865.

In America, it was the Thirteenth Amendment that abolished slavery. The amendment was officially adopted on December 6, 1865. As of September 2014, that was 148 years ago.
