It's a Stevens manufactured for Montgomery Wards. Model 5000 was introduced in 1926 and manufactured into the 1930's when it was re-designated Model 5100 and around 1940 became the Model 311.
I have a Wards Westernfield model 80 that I bought in the mid 90's from a family friend. She was over 90 years old and told me that her husband had bought the rifle new from Wards in 1936. npbanner@sbcglobal.net
Your westernfield model 550Al was made by mossberg for the montgomery wards co.(westernfield).These shotguns are still being made and are quite popular.I would check at mossberg,s site. The model designation for your wards shotgun made by mossberg is the mossberg model 500.
I have a wards-westernfield 20 g pump, full choke, These guns were manufactured by Stevens-Savage for MW. Mine was handed down to me by my father and was purchased in 1945. So it's at least that old, 64 years. Hope this helps.
I suggest you get a magnifier and relook the model number. It is probably a 30-SB562A. I have one that I would not part with. I was told that it was probably 80 years old but that does not square with what I have read in other entries at this site.
I bought one new from Montgomery Wards about 25 years ago
what years were the 370 , 20 gauge made in Canada what years were the 370 , 20 gauge made in Canada
My father used a Wards Western Field 410 gauge repeater as a young man. The gun I believe is approximately 70-80 years old. If you have a patent number you can contact the pantent office and they should be able to tell you when the shotgun was first produced.
60 years give or take a couple
