Gas engines use spark plugs to ignite the air fuel mixture and diesel engines use high cylinder compression to ignite the fuel air mixture. Other than that they are similar.

Diesel engines ignite the fuel by using high compression: as the engine compresses the air inside the combustion chamber, it reaches around 1000 degrees, at which point diesel fuel is injected into the combustion chamber, and it ignites.

Gasoline engines use the sparks from spark plugs to ignite the gasoline/air mixture in the engines' combustion chambers after it has been compressed. Because separate sparks are used the amount of compression required in a gasoline engine is a lot less than would be necessary in a diesel engine.

The main reason diesel engines are heavier and more expensive to make than gasoline engines is because, to be able to withstand the much higher compression, diesel engines have to be made much stronger by having thicker cylinder walls, compression chambers, pistons, connecting rods, crankshafts, etc.

Can regular engines run on diesel fuel?

Gasoline engines cannot run on diesel. Only a diesel engine can run diesel. And a diesel engine cannot run on gasoline.

Are turbines more efficient than gasoline engines?

By a generous estimate, they can be about 30% more efficient than a gasoline engine. I assume you mean "are turbines more efficient than piston engines". Depends on the running conditions. At full load, steady running conditions, turbines are better than piston Engines. At varying loads, turbines often do quite poorly.

What is the difference between displacement and power in engines?

Displacement is a measure of volume all the cylinders in one engine combined have. Power is what the complete engine assembly can produce when running.

What is difference between old trains and new trains?

The difference between old and new trains is in their running gear and method of propulsion. Old trains used coal and steam while modern trains use diesel engines to power electrical motors.

Can Low Running Harm Diesel Engines?

nothing like that , but people which have low running go for petrol because , the price difference between them more than one lack . in the case of diesel engine it get good milage and efficiency at optimum temperature this can achieved only by good running.

How Do You Get A Go Cart Running?

As with all gasoline engines, start with the three basic's. Check for fire, fuel, and compression, in the correct amounts. Whichever of the three absolutes mentioned that are difficent, is where you begin.
