At the end of the Mexican-American War (1846-1848) Mexico lost present-day California, Nevada, Utah, parts of Colorado as well as most of northern New Mexico and Arizona. Also at the end of the war Mexico was forced to cease any attempt on reclaiming Texas (lost during the Texas Revolution in 1836), which included present-day Texas, as well as parts of Oklahoma, Kansas, Wyoming and the rest of Colorado. This is also known as the Mexican Cession (1848).
Officially, the last time Mexico and the U.S. fought was during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848) when most of the U.S. Southwest changed hands.
However, the last time both countries had an exchange of bullets, happened in 1914, during the Occupation of Veracruz.
