Don't know for sure, but I doubt it. Two friends and I tried to get in to fish in the early 1960's. The place was actively protected by a caretaker who had dogs. They did not want anybody back there.
I used to go to the Hard Rock Quarry in high school too starting in 1969. It was sort of bleak, not much there, a beach with blaring music and a concession stand, I think only open on weekends. I remember trying to find it years later after coming back from college but it was gone, so it didn't last very long. I heard rumors there was an accident there and someone died but don't really know anything for sure.
It definitely was a hot spot for teens in the 70's because it was closer than going to Sherston in Canada. They had concerts and even had to pay to swim there. I want to know why it closed to the public-something happened-but i can't remember what?
Spaulding Lake was and always be a quarry. It is deep and cold.
It was originally a quarry. The spaulding lake area sits atop a portion of the ancient escarpment of bedrock which exist throughout the counties of Erie and niagara. It is very deep. I believe an underwater spring was struck and allowed to fill in. The lakes clarity is due to the bedrock bottom and walls.
i once went to a swim meet in Louisville Kentucky and it was very big. it used to be a quarry but they made a swimming pool out of it.
