No.
if you run your van at max cargo capacity or if you are towing a heavy trailer you should not use overdrive it will heat thetransmission up and will cause failure prematurely usually when you need it most.
USE OVERDRIVE WHEN NOT TOWING , TURN IT OFF IF YOU ARE TOWING OR PULLING A LARGE LOAD
Yes, it is a fuel saver and should be left on at highway speeds unless you are towing a heavy load especially in the mountains.
The maximum towing weight for a Ford Escort Van is 1,650 pounds. Its maximum trailer hitch weight is just 165 pounds, so care must be taken to not overload the suspension.
if you are hooked up to a trailer the fuses for the towing package are under the hood on the drivers side. for the van under the dash on the driver side
what is the towing capacity of E-250 van
A Nissan quest should have no problem towing a Civic. Just go slow and don't punch the gas so you don't overwork the transmission. Keep the van out of overdrive also. This will help things be easier on the transmission as well.
I have a 1989 Dodge B250...it has overdrive
Light being on means overdrive is inactive
Easier to say when NOT to use overdrive - which is basically when pulling heavy loads and traveling in very hilly / mountainous areas.
I have a 1990 gmc vandura 2500 conversion van with the 350 v8 5.7 litre engine. According to the tag found in the glove box, at the front between the two front seats, it has a max towing capacity of 6600lbs. I am currently towing a trailer that is 6200lbs with no problems at all. An RV dealership told me that my 89 g2500 (non-conversion) had a towing capactiy of 7500lbs when I had the brake controler installed. My trailer is 5000lbs and the van tows it well, you know it's there (especially going uphill) but the drivetrain never has to struggle, just has to work harder. Make sure you have an aux cooler for your transmission and a heavy duty radiator installed prior to towing.
