Connect all white wires together under a wire nut and push them back into the box. Connect all ground wires together and then connect them with a jumper wire to the ground screw on the switch. Connect black power in and power out, if applicable, wires to the bottom screw on the switch. Connect the remaining black wire going to the light to the top screw on the switch.
USE THE 'ODD' COLORED SCREW---THE 'LIKE' COLORED SCREWS ARE USED FOR THE 'SWITCH LEGS' OR 'TRAVELERS'.

Connect the 2 black wires you have left to the 2 screws on the switch. Does not matter which if you only have power in and power out to the light.
Tie all White wires together. Tie the Grounds together and connect them to the ground screw on two switches. Create a pigtail with TWO black wires coming out. Connect a black wire to each of the two switches. (you pick which screw, but be consistent. Connect the black wire from the light to the remaining screw on one of the switches. Connect the black wire from the fan to the remaining screw on the OTHER switch.
Black/White/Ground power in and the same out. Tie the incoming and outgoing white wires together under a yellow wire nut and push them back in the box. Tie the ground wires together under a green wire nut and connect the pigtail from those ground wires to the ground screw on the switch. Connect the 2 black wires you have left to the 2 screws on the switch. Doesn't matter which black wire you connect to which screw.
That is called a three way switch. It's used in conjunction with another 3 way switch in another area and they both control a light or set of lights. The black is power and the other two are called travelers that wire to the the other 2 gold screws on the other switch. A three way switch can be used as a single pole switch by using the black screw and one of the brass screws. You will have to test the circuit to orient the switch so up is on and down is off, if that is what you desire, because it is not obvious on a three way switch. The green screw is simply your equipment ground. You place your green or bare conductor there.
A typical switch doesn't have a Common screw in the strictest sense, it just has two screws which are each side of the switch. You probably have a a 3-way switch. If you are hooking up a 3-way switch as a normal switch, then connect the Black (Hot) wire to the common and the load to the side of the switch that makes UP the on direction and DOWN is off and doesn't get connected. You can determine for sure if you have a 3-way switch because the word ON and OFF don't appear on the toggle.

Light switch connection is usually straight forward. Find your incoming hot wires, black and white. With the switch in the off (down) position and the power disconnected , connect the black wire to the top screw of the switch. Find the load wires and connect the black to the bottom screw of the switch. Connect the two remaining white wires together with a wire nut and push them to the back of the switch box. Install the switch into the wall box, replace switch plate cover. Turn the breaker (power) back on. Flip the switch to the up position and the light should come on.

behind steering column trim,will need to pop bottom off with flat screw driver.its right there under key lock which its lock too.im trying to change ignition switch and its in my way.its black with a white label and wiring in bottom.

Simply run a wire from that outlet to that wall switch. Be sure you use the exact same wire size that you find in that outlet. It will be AWG 12/2 or 14/2. Do not mixes wire sizes. First you need to remove the steering wheeel. 2 remove the hazard switch screw, remove the 3 screws holding the turn signal switch, you need to remove the plastic cover below the drivers side to get access to the wires for the turn signal switch unplug the wires for the turn signal switch slide the turn signal switch up no need to remove if. 3 you can get a tool from a parts store to compress the black metal cover it does have a plastic cover over the metal,the tool will screw onto the column then tighten the top of the tool down and this will compress the spring below the black cover, with a couple of small screw drivers you can remove the metal clip that holds the black cover down, with clip removed loosen up the tool remove the tool the clip and the blcck cover. 4 there is a torx screw that holds the lock assm.in remove the screw and the lock assm. will pull out
It's the big black screw cap with a yellow label, just in front of the passenger side front shock under the hood.
