It may need replacing or it can be the alternator is overcharging the battery. Have the charging system checked out. The alternator should output from 13.5 to 15.5 volts with the engine running at idle.
No, this battery is a maintenance free battery. In fact it probably cannot even be opened to add water.
the water probably made a short circuit in your battery so the battery is probably dead and a life saver. because the battery helped to keep the water from getting to the mainboard so the ipod still works only the battery is dead.
