I think there are more than one solution but the one I understand is to provide two by two way switches linked with two strap wires. A cross over switch is also used at some third location to 'cut' the straps, linking A to B and B to A alternately dependant on switch position.
The commons are connected to live or load. I always need to draw a diagram for each pathway just to make sure.

The above answer is (semi) correct. You need two three way switches at the ends of the circuit, and one (or more) four way switches in the middle. The three way switches select between A and B for power, and the four way switches flip A for B and B for A. You can use any number of four way switches, making this an N-Way circuit. The three way switches are SPDT, and the four way switches are DPDT with an internal cross-over.
A rotary switch is a switch operated by rotation. These are often chosen when more than 2 positions are needed, such as a three-speed fan or a CB radiowith multiple frequencies of reception or "channels".
I have operated a business phone system and it is not really complicated. They have at least three different numbers for you all in a series and you will notice that you can switch to different lines and you may have to dial nine to get outside the line.

Some do and some do not. It depends on the application that you are using the switch in.In a home three way lighting circuit there is no off position on the switch. In control work there is an off position. It comes in the form of a (Hand - Off - Auto) switch. In power distribution services it comes in the form of a manually operated or automatically operated (Hydro - Off - Emergency) power switch. These types of switches are used to connect a generator to the service distribution. The latter two can come in two or three pole switches depending on what phase the service is.
You turn on two switches wait 5 min. and turn one of the switches off! go in the next room the cold one belongs to the switch you never turned on..the warm one the switch you only left on 5 min and the lite one to the switch that is turned on! you switch on one switch for a few minutes, one for ages, and dont turn the other one on at all. you go through to the other room, the bulb that is warm is operated by the first switch, the roasting hot bulb (that would burn your hand) is operated by the second switch, and the cold bulb is operated by the third switch.
There are several places that store three way switches for selling in PA. Some local ones are these: Kitchen Distributors of the North Hills, Sandfree, Kitchen Switch and Switch Three Way.
A three way switch can be used as a single switch. Replacing this switch will not allow you to switch a fixture from two locations unless there is a three wire cable going to the second box.

It is a method of starting a three phase motor at a lower than operating voltage. The motor is operated at that voltage for a short specific time and then the controls switch to the motors full run operating voltage.

A three-pole light switch has three separate switches that control one light fixture, allowing for more control over the lighting. In terms of wiring, a three-pole switch requires an additional wire compared to a standard switch to accommodate the extra switch.
3 gang switch and you can call it 2-way switch..is a type of swithces we are using mostly in the stairs lighting ,that mean you have switch up to the stair and one down to the stair and you can switch the light on from one and switch it off from the other switch and via verse. <<>> There is no such thing as a three gang three way switch,. The nearest thing is a three gang double throw switch. It is used to supply a three phase load from two individual three phase supply sources. This is the type of manual switch that can be used for emergency power switch over from utility to generator. Three way switching uses a single pole double throw switch at each end of the circuit and a cross over switch in the center position. The center switch in a three way lighting configuration is a cross over switch and a double pole double throw switch in that position will not work.
