The switch is usually a temperature sensor in the coolant. On my car I can change it in a hour. Now my guess is either they miss-diagnosed the problem, (maybe it's a relay on the circuit and not the sensing switch) or they haven't gotten to it and are making excuses, or it's in a rediculous place and they can't access it easily. But your best bet is to ask for the used parts they remove when you get your bill. (if it under warranty then they might not give it back... but they should at least show it to you)
