The manning formula is used to size the irrigation canal or any hydraulic section. Water may be transmitted from the source to the field by unlined or lined canal, pipeline or combination. The Manning formula relates the transmission media (the cross section area and resistance to flow) to the flow characteristics ie volume Q.
