both since they both are in ownership program so they both can
A car is typically only registered in one name. If town names are put on the registration, both would have to be present to sell it.
If two people own the car they must both sign the certificate of title to transfer ownership to a new owner. If you only own half you can't sell the other half too.If two people own the car they must both sign the certificate of title to transfer ownership to a new owner. Yes. But it is titled as Smith AND Jones, both have to sign to sell it. In some cases it may be titled as Smith OR Jones- and either could sell it.
If the car is titled in "or" then the other person can sign the title. If the car is titled "and" then you need to go to the DMV and fill out the necessary paperwork. Bring the death certificate and the will/trust paperwork to demonstrate legal ownership.
New Jersey and New York
If the names are like, "John Smith -and- Mary Smith", then they both have to sign the title. If the names are like, "John Smith -or- Mary Smith", then one signature is needed, and it can be by either one.
Most, if not all, states in the US will allow joint ownership on a car title.
From what I've read (I have the same situation) if there is an "AND/OR" on the title, only one needs to sign. If there is no "and/or" both need to sign.
both
Yes
call an insurance agency a(well known one in your state) i would call state farms insurance in california, you might be added to an insurance with a permit to drive. you do not have to put your car on his / her name as the only owner, you might want to place as a co-ownership two names (owners)when you break up you might have to sell the car and give half of the money to the other person, once on paper it does not matter who, when or how you got the car,you own only half of it.
