Charles P. Strite known for inventing the pop-up toaster was born in Courte de Leon, France in 1897. After a troubled childhood made difficult by his father disappearing before his birth, he went to school in London, England and eventually immigrated to America where he lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
In Minneapolis he worked in a manufacturing plant and ironically because he was sick of getting burnt toast in the work cafeteria, he invented the pop-up toaster. He eventually married and had 4 children and died on October 18, 1956 in Minneapolis, MN.
