Your body uses lactic acid fermentation when oxygen levels are not adequate for proper cellular respiration. Our bodies need oxygen(aerobic) to continue exerting themselves, so when our muscles do not get enough oxygen from our breathing it resorts to fermentation, or the anaerobic (non oxygen using) pathway. This creates lactic acid in our muscles, which is the cause for cramps while being physically active.

Hope this helps! :)

Your body uses lactic acid fermentation when it runs out of oxygen. Oxygen is a key part to Cellular Respiration, which makes 38 ATP (energy) molecules. Fermentation only makes 2 ATP because the body has no oxygen.

How does swimming use lactic acid?

After a while of swimming, your muscles use lactic acid. It uses it through Lactic acid fermentation. It results in more energy.

How is lactic aid removed from the body?

It is not removed. The lactic acid contains a lot of energy so the body can use it to release more energy The lactic acid passes into the blood and it is transported to the liver where it is converted into a respiratory substrate called pyruvate The body can then use the energy in pyruvate to make more ATP which is the energy currency of the body. This produces water and carbon dioxide

What is a use of lactic acid in the kitchen?

Hot Dilly beans are an example of lactic acid fermentation.

Does latic acid cause muscle fatigue?

Lactic acid is produced when the body performs shot, intense bursts of work. Lactic acid comes from the body's need for quick energy. As such, the body converts glucose (stored sugars) into ATP (Usable energy) rapidly without the use of oxygen. This is Anaerobic activity because there is no use of oxygen. Fatigue develops after an extended use of Anaerobic work. The body uses Lactate (lactic acid) for fast energy and has to work to remove the waste products from your muscles. This is the burn and fatigue you feel.

Do your body cells always use cellular respiration and fermentation?

Yes. Cell respiration and lactic acid fermentation.

Why do sports such as swimming and running use the lactic acid system?

Lactic acid is produced when muscles in the body move at high rates and over long periods of time. So, even with swimming, you move your arms and legs a lot to gain speed, and this causes the acid to form. In reality, this acid is another type of acid, however it combines with oxygen to form Lactic Acid.

How does the energy system recover?

The lactic acid energy system relies on the breakdown of glycogen to produce energy. As it does not require oxygen to break down glycogen a by-product called lactic acid is formed. If enough lactic acid is accumulated then the body begins to fatigue. To recover, the lactic acid requires oxygen. Once oxgen is present the lactic acid can be converted back to pyruvic acid which can once again be used to produce energy. Therefore to speed up recovery of the lactic system an "active"recovery at a low intencity is recommended. This then employs the use of the aerobic energy system which requires oxygen to be transported to the working muscles, and at the same time removing the fatiguing lactic acid.
