January 20th, as agreed by the 20th amendment to the U.S. constitution. The term of office for the out-going president ends at noon on that day, so the inaugeration is held shortly afterwards.

Presidential inaugurations occur at noon on January 20 in the year immediately following the most recent election.

The 20th Amendment, ratified January 23, 1933, changed the inauguration date from March 4 to January 20 so the new administration could take charge sooner.
