Simply stated because no one has yet identified the origin. Answers on WikiAnswers are an amorphous thing; they change constantly. This is the nature of the site. No one owns an answer or a question here. Anyone may edit, and are encouraged to do so.

Some people begin answering such questions by interpreting meaning, perhaps in the hope that it may help someone. Sometimes questions are split off that leave behind an answer that does not address the question. Sometimes answerers perhaps do not understand the question. However, when a supervisor becomes aware of the matter, as now, corrections can be made.

Q: When asked in this forum 'what is the origin of the proverb you must eat a peck of dirt before you die' why was the answer left at explaining the meaning instead of an answer as to the origin?
