Quite often, unless you buy a kit, aquariums only come with the bare basics. You will need to purchase a filter, an air pump for a bubble wand or stone, food, water conditioner, aquarium salt, a heater, an aquarium thermometer, air lines, and filter media.
Fishkeeping can be an expensive hobby depending on the type of fish you choose to keep. Goldfish for example need 20 gallons for the first fish, and 10 gallons for each additional goldfish you add - this does not include single tailed goldfish which require much more space (comet or common), and Koi need at least 100 gallons PER fish.
it cleans the tank and keep the fish heathy
An electric air pump oxygenates the water in an aquarium, this allows the fish in the fish tank to breath. if there was no air pump the water would lose its oxygen and the fish would drown.
Maybe its because the air taken in from the air pump is toxic to fish. Try not to spray or use chemicals such as air fresheners, detergent etc near the pump. Hope this helps.
yes.
The machine used in fish tanks that makes bubbles is called an air pump or air stone. It add oxygen to the water and keeps the oils from coating the tank.
Most of them pump air into the tank so that the fish can breathe better. You should get one if you have a bamboo shrimp, I know from expirience. The usefull thing an air pump can do is to drive a filter which is designed to remove the poisons that occur in every fish tank. Simply using it to blow bubbles is a waste.
if you have 1 or 2, then no. just dont put a tight cover on the cage because the fish use our oxygen from the top of the water to breathe. if you have a bunch of fish, you might need one. :) It is possible your fish will not survive without the pump. It depends on what you are using to induce air into the water. There are some varieties of fish that do not need a pump such as gold fish and bettas. Call your local Pet store for more information when in doubt. Most fish tank kits come with a pump included. Technically, the "air pump" is not necessary at all; oxygen does not get into the water from the bubbles. What the bubbles really do is cause the water to circulate, bringing water up from the bottom of the tank to the top of the tank where it can pick up oxygen from the air. Any other method of circulating the water in the tank would work just as well.
An air lift pump is used to press down air. Most commonly used when allowing light to be drawn in when necessary. For example a fish tank will use one.
Like all freshwater fish, It depends on the power of the filter and how clean the water is...
No, however a goldfish will greatly benefit from having one. An air pump provides an added source of aeration which increases the levels of dissolved oxygen in the tank. This in-turn makes it easier for the fish to breath.
If you mean a well tank, the water is forced in by the pump. The residual air pressure pushes the water out to the faucets.
A goldfish does not need an airpump, it needs 3 stage filtration and good water movement from something such as a box filter and/or power heads. A goldfish, however, is not suited for a 5 gallon tank. 10 gallons per goldfish is the recommended minimum, as they grow very large and require more oxygen than almost any other fish. I would recommend something smaller such as rosy minnows, guppies, or if you get a heater, small tropical fish like tetras. ALL fish however, need filtration, not just an air pump.
