What is it called when the concentration of solutes is greater outside the cell the inside?

A hypertonic environment with regard to the cell.

When the concentration is higher on the outside of the cell it is?

Hypertonic solution.

What will happen if a blood cell is placed in a hypertonic salt solution?

A hypertonic solution is a solution that has a high concentration of solute, in this case the solute being salt. When a red blood cell is placed in a hypertonic solution, since the salt concentration is higher in the outside of the cell, the water concentration is lower there as well. Therefore, through the process of osmosis, the water diffuses from the inside of the cell to the outside of the cell.

What does a hypertonic solution have?

A hypertonic solution has a higher solute concentration than the cell the solution is in. (So the cell will shrink when it is in a hypertonic solution, because water will leave the cell in an attempt to balance the ratios of solute to water both inside and outside of the cell.)

A solution in which the salt concentration inside the cell is higher than outside the cell is known as?

hypertonic :D

A cell placed in a soltuion shrinks by the process of osmosis What kind of solution is outside the cell?

Osmosis is the process in which solvent move from low to high concentration region. As per the question asked, since the cell is shrinked, the medium around the cell is hypertonic solution i.e.,solution of high concentration.

Which type of solution would cause a cheek cell to shrink?

A hypertonic solution would cause a cheek cell to shrink. The size is related to the fact that the hypertonic solution has a greater concentration of solute outside the cell.

Is a solution outside of a cell contains a greater concentration of dissolved particles than the contents of the cell the solution is said to be what?

Hypo-osmotic, it depends on the osmolality, if the osmolality is higher inside the cell its called hypotonic.

What refers to a solution with more molecules outside the cell than inside the cell?

hypertonic solution

Lower concentration of solutes outside the cell than inside the cell?

surgar will move into the cell

What happends to a cell when placed in a hypertonic solution?

When a cell is put in a hypertonic solution, it shrinks and shrivels. You alwasy have t say: This solution is hypertonic to ...A hypertonic solution means that there is more matter in the solution than in the object it is compared to. The cell will shrink and shrivel because the water will leave the cell to try to dissolve the matter outside of it.

What happens to a cell that is place in a hypertonic solution?

water will move from a high H2O concentration inside the cell, to a low H2O concentration outside the cell.
