When changing a battery for your BMW Z3 M roadster 2000 do you need to hook the car to another power source ie a battery jumper pack so as not to have to re-set all warning lights?

No you do not. I have removed and replaced the battery in my M Roadster multiple times. You will however need to input the security code into the audio deck to get the radio to unlock. This code will be printed on a card (business card size) that came with the care.
