Generally no. These dogs are highly trained and require special handling even in retirement. Most often the officer who is partnered with the dog will keep it as a family pet when it retires.

What are animal cops really called?

Animal cops are basically people who are criminal investigators. They go out to locations on tips. People call their office and say "There is a homeless dog in my neighborhood" or something. The officers then pick up the animal and take it to a vet to get evaluated, treated, and then put up for adoption. If the pet belongs to somebody, they have to get a seizure warrant from a judge so they can take the animal. They then evaluate and treat the dog but cannot put it up for adoption. If the owner wants it back, they have to go to court, and present their case to a judge. Usually the cops win, and the animal then gets put up for adoption. If the owner doesn't care, the cops just get the animal. Criminal action can be pursued against the owner, and if so, the cops testify against the person. A very special and rewarding job.

What do animal cops do?

Animal cops save animals from being harmed or neglected and they also provide them with food water and shelter. If they bring an animal in and the animal is hurt they help and fix the hurt animal. If they see that the animal has been abused then they will arrest the person for animal cruelty and put the animal up for adoption. Hope I could answer your question. ;)

Some of the concentration camp guards had dogs that they unleashed on prisoners. This seems to have been particularly common at the Auschwitz Women's Camp. Some of the German Shepard dogs were trained to rip, gnarl and drag humans. Many of the Holocaust survivors witness the horrific act. Juana Bormann was a SS prison guard who was known to use dogs.
