Most classical authors would have been aware of Eratosthenes' dating, and many seem to have accepted it as substantively correct.

If one allow a decade (or probably a little less) for Aeneas' wanderings around the Mediterranean, this gives us a date for first landfall on the Italian mainland between 1187 and 1177 BC.
