Alan Bean is alive and painting daily as he says "he has more ideas to paint then he has time!" Going strong and painting amazing "space scape's" of his travels to the moon this retired Navy Captain is not taking it easy! Not only does he have this otherworldly artwork that can be seen at www.alanbeangallery.com but he also has books and is featured in the outstanding movie In the Shadow of the Moon. If you are particularly interested in his painting he has a DVD in which he goes into great detail about how he paints but also how he decided to retire after 18 years and devote his life full time to painting. His paintings are impressionistic in nature (like Monet) yet he seems to make a desolate place come to life. You can stare at his paintings and see new features each time. Some show his humor while others are more patriotic in nature but none of them ever fail to please.

His birthday is March 15, 1932 and considers Texas his home town as he was born in Wheeler and now resides outside Houston. In 1969, Apollo 12 with Pete Conrad and Richard Duke; Alan Bean became the fourth moonwalker; of which there are only there are only 12, with nine living at the time of this writing. He later commanded Skylab 3 where he got to have a walk in space. He was offered command of the first space shuttle but at that time ecided to let "the young ones" have their turn and he left NASA to paint the skies.
