China, not really one unified state at the time, had been involved in war long before WW2 started in the terms applied to Europe or America. Japan had attacked Chinese troops in Manchuria in 1931 and the failure of the League of Nations to deal with this effectively at least marked a step towards WW2 if it did not actually contribute to it. In 1937, Japanese forces invaded the coastal areas of China and occupied many major cities, so December 1941 marked a new ally for the Chinese forces, not entry into a new war.

With that being said - China did not decide to enter WW2. It was already having its own war. When the Japanese attacked Manchuria, failures of the L.O.N, gave Hitler the impression the L.O.N would not do anything if he decided to invade Czechoslovakia. Finally when Hitler took Poland, WW2 began and China was caught in the middle between their own civil war, and defending themselves against the Japanese. When WW2 was over, China's civil war was still being fought. The war finished with the Peoples Republic of China (Communist) victory.

So it is really safe to say, China never truly "entered" the war to fight against fascism in Germany or Japan. They had only attempted to defend themselves against Japan's invasion. If they were not the target of Japan's invasion, it is very unlikely they would have gotten caught in WW2.

Eventually U.S involvement lead to the surprise attack on pearl harbor, which then the Americans entered the WW2 as well, finally pushing the Japanese back and dropping the two bombs on Japan.

Before World War 2, Japan had ordered a full scale invasion on China.(On 1937, about 2 years before WW2) Therefore, should be on the first day of World War 2, that is September 1 ,1939 had involved in World War 2.

China's involvement in the war was mostly fighting off a brutal Japanese Invasion, and suffered the second highest number of casualties of any country. The Japanese were placing troops in northeastern China as early as 1931, but war began in 1937 after the Battle of Marco Polo Bridge just outside Beijing. Beijing was soon captured.

The first major battle came in August 1937, when a full Japanese invasion took Shanghai after a difficult battle. Later that year they captured the capital of Nanjing, which became the scene of attrocious war crimes when 300,000 civilians were murdered by occupying soldiers. The Japanese government had hoped to stop the conflict at this point, but by now had lost control of the army. The army greatly escalated the conflict at the Battle of Xuzhou, though their advances stalled with defeat at Taierzhuang. After this, they reorganised their tactics and took Wuhan, where the government had relocated.

Afterwards, the Japanese launched some of the war's first air-raids, including on Chongqing, the relocated capital. However, by 1939 the tide had turned and the Japanese were defeated in several battles, however the Chinese attempts to launch a large counter-attack also failed. By 1940, the situation reached stalemate and the Japanese soldiers were under strain due to resistance from locals, as the result of their numerous war crimes and murders of civillians (sometimes called the Asian Holocaust). Progress in retaking the rest of China was slow, but eventually hastened after Japan surrendered to the US.

China did not actually enter the Second World War. They had been at war with Japan since 1936 and the fighting continued into the War years.
