AnswerTo say when Daniel appeared in Persia, we should look at the written records of the Persians themselves. After all, Daniel tells us that he was the second most important person in the Persian Empire, after the king.

But the Persian records tell us nothing about Daniel or about any foreigner whe became vizier, or any other high position in the empire. There is nothing in the record of either the Persians or of the contemporary Jews that would help us place Daniel in a Persian context. Even the historical detail of the Book of Daniel differs in fundamental ways from the history as we know it. It is as if the second-century BCE author of the Book of Daniel was writing a novel that only later became accepted as a book of history. Daniel was not part of Persian history.

Cyrus was the king of Persia who defeated the Babylonian Empire and freed the Jews in Exile.Cyrus is referred to in the Book of Isaiah, which shows great appreciation for his help and generosity.Cyrus is also referred to in the Book of Daniel. Because Daniel attributes the defeat of the Babylonian Empire to King Darius, historically a successor to Cyrus, this book places Cyrus later in history.

What name is mainly used on most maps Iran or Persia?

Whether Iran or Persia is likely to appear on a map depends on two things, the date the map is portraying, and the date the map is made. The name Iran is rather recent. Maps of ancient Persia use the name Persia. Maps from the 19th century are likely to say Persia. Modern maps of the modern land are unlikely to say Persia, and are likely to say Iran instead.
