Why was the cotton gin so important to the south?
Well, Eli Whitney ( the inventor of the cottin gin) made the cottin gin to help the slaves but it really backfired on him and made the slaves have to work harder. Really the cottin gin didn't really pick cotton it cleaned the seeds.
