Arguably, Germany began recruitment for the Great War immdiately following the Second Morrocan Crisis, in 1911. Although unity amonst the Triple Entente forced a German compromise, French determination to extend African influence lead to German ambitions of a similar aim. Britain stood firmly with France on this issue, and it was seen for the first time that a scope for Imperial concerns to cause a war in Europe. Britain & France originally had no intention of military intervention, but this came around due to the German aggression by dispatching a cruiser, the Panther, down to the Morrocan capital.
