he was the son of Zeus (God) and Maia (nymph) he was a God by nature but never gained the attention of Zeus enough to live on Mount Olympus as a full God. Through his cunning nature and characteristics he earned Zeus' attention through stealing Apollos' cattle as an infant and was awarded the role of Messenger of the Gods and was then referred to as an adult. There is no clear date but this theft is the recognition of when Hermes became a full adult God.
